EXPANSION UPDATE As you are probably aware, SECCRA is continuing its long-term plan to provide the residents of Southern Chester County with waste disposal and recycling services now and in the future. As part of that plan, SECCRA has filed permits with the DEP and with London Grove Township to expand the landfill on the SECCRA Property between the existing landfill and Route 41. The DEP permit application process is going very well. SECCRA’s Phase I general permitting process has been accepted by DEP and SECCRA is proceeding to the Phase II technical design process. The permit process with London Grove Township, as expected, is not going so well. The township zoning board rejected SECCRA’s request to change their zoning to allow SECCRA’s DEP approved design and instead is imposing limits on the size of the proposed landfill. SECCRA’s appeal of the township’s position has just been rejected by the Chester County Court of Common Pleas. SECCRA will now have to appeal this decision at the next court level. Continued litigation threatens the operation of the landfill in the long term. The Board and Administration of SECCRA are continuing the fight for the solid waste disposal and recycling needs of the citizens of southern Chester County. SECCRA is committed to fulfilling its mission – to handle the solid waste disposal needs of the 95,000 citizens of our 24 boroughs and townships in an environmentally friendly, cost-effective manner. We will do whatever it takes to fulfill this mission. Even if these issues are not resolved by the time we run out of space in our existing landfill in 2009, we will continue to explore all alternatives to serve the community and protect the environment as SECCRA has done since 1968. For more information about our proposed expansion, and what it means to you, please visit www.seccra.org. |
