PLEASE DON’T CONTAMINATE RECYCLED WASTE OIL Recently, an unknown person poured oil-based paint into the waste oil collection container located at the SECCRA Community Landfill. The contaminant ruined over 300 gallons of used oil. SECCRA’s contract recycler could not accept it for recycling, thereby causing SECCRA to spend over $2,000 in cleanup costs to the waste oil collection system. This act, whether intentional or unintentional, abused SECCRA’s recycling system and turned 300 gallons of recycle oil into a hazardous waste, and cost your landfill significant expense. SECCRA strives to make the services it provides as inexpensive as possible. Currently SECCRA accepts for free up to 15 gallons of waste oil from residents in its service area. If this abuse continues, SECCRA may be forced to charge for this service or end it entirely. It is unfortunate that it only takes one person’s misdeeds to adversely affect a service used by hundreds of environmentally responsible residents annually. Please don’t misuse SECCRA’s waste oil collection system or any of its other recycling services. Please read the signs that are around each drop-off site and only dispose of those items that belong there. If you do not understand the instructions, let us know, and we will assist you. Thank you for your cooperation. |
