SECCRA ANNOUNCES PLANS TO PROVIDE SERVICE INTO THE NEXT DECADE
The board of directors of the Southeastern Chester County Refuse Authority (SECCRA) announced that an application has been submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) to secure at least an additional 8 years capacity at its site in London Grove Township, on lands that are owned by SECCRA. General Manager Bill Stullken said, "SECCRA's landfill is the communities' landfill. The SECCRA plan for the citizens of southern Chester County covers their waste disposal needs for the next 35-40 years. This application is for the next phase of that plan, and provides capacity until 2017. Because landfill space is not unlimited, SECCRA encourages residents to utilize our programs of waste reduction, recycling and reuse." SECCRA is a municipal authority formed in 1968 by the citizens of southern Chester County to solve a problem in their communities: Where to dispose of the growing volume of trash. There are 24 boroughs and townships in southern Chester County which are members of SECCRA and are governed by a volunteer group of 10 directors each representing a community in SECCRA's service area. SECCRA handles all municipal waste generated by those communities, but does not accept any waste from outside these municipalities. At the present time, SECCRA employs 17 local residents. The SECCRA Community Landfill has maintained a long-standing positive relationship with its member municipalities. The services we offer, many of which are free of charge, are unmatched in many communities. For more than 17 years, SECCRA and PADEP have accumulated a vast knowledge of the site's hydrology, hydrogeology, groundwater quality and soils. Any future activities at the SECCRA Community Landfill will continue our unmatched standard of environmental excellence and community service; services that everyone can benefit from. For more information about SECCRA's plans for the future, and how our landfill actually protects the environment, visit our website at www.seccra.org, or call 610-869-2452, and speak to our General Manager, Bill Stullken. |
