According
to industry statistics, the average person generates 217 pounds of cardboard
waste per year. In response, SECCRA has introduced a new drop-off cardboard
recycling program.
Now, instead
of throwing out your old cereal, soap, and tissue boxes – do your
part and recycle them. Once the old corrugated box that brought us our
microwave, computer, or toaster is emptied, it frequently lives again
by being recycled into new corrugated boxes or other recycled paper
products. And, corrugated cardboard recycling cuts the emissions of
surlfu dioxide in half – saving about one quarter of the energy
used to manufacture it. Other benefits to cardboard recycling include
diverting paper waste from landfills, reducing energy used in the production
of new paper, and reducing the amount of virgin materials used in paper
production. Bring flattened cardboard items to a drop-off site near
you.
And don’t
forget, SECCRA also accepts drop-off recycling of cans, metal food containers,
clear glass bottles, brown glass bottles, green glass bottles, #1 and
#2 plastic bottles, newspaper, magazines, junk mail, catalogs, phone
books, office paper, and used oil.
