SECCRA LAUNCHES VIRTUAL SWAP MEET

CHATHAM FEBRUARY 24, 2004- The Southeastern Chester County Refuse Authority (SECCRA), a longtime provider of recycling services in the region is proud to announce the creation of a new website, www.seccra-swap.com, which is designed as a “virtual swap meet” where people that have things to get rid of can get together with people who might be able to use them.

SECCRA realized a need to create this website when users of the SECCRA Community Landfill in Chatham have repeatedly lamented that they are getting rid of items that aren’t worth anything to them, but still have some life left.  Some examples include major appliances, furniture and electronics.  SECCRA’s customers have asked, “Is there  any place I can put this item off to the side so that if someone wants it, they can take it?”  Due to space constraints SECCRA is unable to do that, however this website will not only make it easier for givers and receivers to get together via cyberspace, it will also save the cost to dispose of those items, in both money and in landfill space.

The website, designed by Gambit Design Internet Services of Kennett Square, is very simple and entirely free to use.  People wishing to post items must first register to do so, then the process of posting an item and description is straightforward.  The capability to upload a picture if the item offered is also provided.  Since SECCRA wishes to keep this site as a “virtual swap meet” items can be listed for free and up to $50.  Items can be listed for a maximum of one month.

Persons that are looking for items can browse the website,  www.seccra-swap.com, for free, then contact the giver of the item if they are interested.  There is also the capability to sign up for e-mail updates of items posted to a person’s favorite categories, in case a particular item is wanted, but is not yet posted.

Just in case someone has an item they want to give away, but does not have internet access, just call SECCRA at 610-869-2452 with the details of the item, and it will be posted.  While SECCRA’s business is taking trash, the less that goes to the landfill is better for everybody.
