Used oil recycling is a two-step process. The first step is, at home, use a drip pan to collect as much oil as possible and prevent spills. Then, puncture the dome end of an oil filter and allow it to drain into the drip pan for at least 12 hours. Pour the used oil into a clean, empty, sealable container such as a plastic milk jug. Specialized containers can be purchased at auto parts stores. Do not put used oil into a container that previously stored antifreeze or other chemicals, and do not mix used oil with other substances.
The second step is taking the used oil to SECCRA, for recycling. Check in with weighmaster window near the scale upon arrival. Tell the attendant that you have used motor oil, and be prepared to prove you reside in SECCRA’s service area. This used oil recycling center is provided as a service to the residents of the community, therefore commercial use is prohibited. Do not leave anything at the site unattended. Please drop off used oil only during the posted hours.
The Southeastern Chester County Refuse Authority was created in 1968 through the dedicated efforts of ten Chester county municipalities. Their objective was to provide reliable solid waste disposal service and environmental protection to families living within the area. Fourteen additional Chester county municipalities joined the original members, and SECCRA now provides waste disposal and recycling services for the Southern one-third of Chester County.
